"The Hunger Games" Review

I know it's been a while since I have posted a new review and I figured why not review one of my recent favorites to hit DVD. This movie stars Jennifer Lawrence playing Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson playing Peeta Mallark as two teens who are thrust into a fight to the death. It is set in a Dystopian society in the future where there are twelve districts and each year, a young man and woman from the ages of twelve and eighteen are drawn to participate in The Hunger Games.

This movie struck a chord in me since I can see our present society turning into something similar. Now, I've heard a lot of people saying Suzanne Summers copied a Japanese movie named "Battle Royale," and seeing how this isn't a very well known film here in America I would have to disagree. There are marked differences in each. I have actually seen "Battle Royale," and I have to be honest, both it and "The Hunger Games" were very good.

I have been a fan of Dystopian literature since I read the famed "1984" in high school. I felt the characters and plot were very well developed. Casting couldn't have been more perfect. I heard a lot of people saying they were iffy about Lenny Kravitz playing Cinna, but I felt his performance was outstanding. Since I actually read the books I felt the casting choices were, like I said, perfect. Woody Harrelson as Haymitch was one of my favorites, but seeing as I'm a huge Woody Harrelson fan I don't think he can do wrong.

As you can all see I have nothing but positive things to say about this film, so this review won't be long. If you want a movie that is rich and full of loveable characters than this is the movie for you. It also helps that it will make you think about the current world position and helps you to speculate about what the future will truly be like for our country. I high suggest this film, and I hope everyone who reads this enjoys it just as much as I did.

  1. I definitely enjoyed The Hunger Games as much as you did! I've also had a lot of my coworkers at Dish say they were iffy on Lenny Kravitz as Cinna as well, but I actually really enjoyed him. I rented the movie with my Blockbuster @Home package by mail first and just started reading the book, but I also feel like the casting choices were pretty good. I've only read half the book so far, but I definitely feel like the chemistry between Peeta and Katniss is much more descriptive in writing. In the movie to me it felt like it was a fake romance. Either way I thought everything else about it was excellent, and I can’t wait to finish the book and all the others before the next movies come out. :)
